XML SWITCHING COMPANY SARVEGA SECURES $10M IN FIRST ROUND
FUNDING
Company Attracts Blue Chip Investors Bessemer
Venture Partners, KB Partners and ComVentures
CHICAGO, IL, November 12, 2001 Sarvega, a privately
held company that develops intelligent XML switches, announced
today that it has secured $10 million in Series A financing
from blue chip investors Bessemer Venture Partners, KB Partners,
and ComVentures. Sarvega will use this funding to continue
its fast-track growth and ramp up for the introduction of
its XML switches early next year.
Bob O'Neil, Venture Partner at Bessemer Venture Partners,
and Bob Zieserl, Managing Director at KB Partners, will join
Sarvega's Board of Directors. Other members are Sunil
Gaitonde, John Chirapurath, and Paul Vabakos, formerly of
ComVentures and now a General Partner at Trinity Ventures.
"Bessemer seeks out the leading early stage communications
companies for our investments. One of the things that impressed
us most about Sarvega is how quickly they have been able to
move from the early stage vision to having initial product
and trials. We believe Sarvega will truly be a company to
watch over the next few years," said O'Neil.
"KB Partners looks very hard at the companies in which
we invest. We found that Sarvega has the right combination
of management talent, industry expertise and ability to deliver
on the vision that are the requirements for success in today's
economic environment. Their location in Chicago is a plus
for the technology community in our area," said Zieserl.
"The Sarvega team brings together a unique combination
of talent and expertise in developing innovative hardware
and applications along with an in-depth understanding of enterprise
customers' requirements from their technology-based business
applications. Their innovative approach to intelligent XML
switching exemplifies the type of communications innovation
in which ComVentures focuses its investments," said Roland
Van der Meer, General Partner at ComVentures.
Sarvega, founded in 2000, is pioneering a new category of
content-aware infrastructure products based on intelligent
XML switching technology that enables large enterprises to
scale their e-business applications. Sarvega's technology
takes advantage of XML while overcoming its limitations to
enable enterprises to effectively manage growing amounts of
company data and to exchange content between their complex
networks of customers, suppliers and partners. Fortune 500
enterprises have already embraced XML as a technology that
will significantly enhance their e-business functions, particularly
in the context of global distributed computing and it is expected
to grow significantly over the next few years: Leading industry
analyst firms expect to see its use expanding to 40% of all
enterprises by 2003.
The vision and execution of the technology were led by the
company's three co-founders who bring together expertise
in identifying new technology markets, building best-in-class
solutions, and marketing these solutions to the enterprise.
- Sunil Gaitonde, Ph.D., Sarvega's President and CEO,
has a successful track record developing networking and
content delivery products for IBM, Cisco and Internet Junction,
a company he co-founded and sold to Cisco.
- John Chirapurath, Vice President of Marketing, brings
an in-depth understanding of the technology challenges and
requirements of enterprises, having spent ten years leading
the implementation of large-scale IT solutions for Fortune
100 companies, most recently at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
- Girish Juneja, Vice President of Engineering, has spent
more than a decade developing innovative content delivery
products for such companies as Thomson Financial Services,
Verizon and MCI Worldcom. He has evangelized the use of
XML for data interchange, content delivery and content presentation.
"Sarvega continues to demonstrate that we have the vision,
the management team, and the ability to lead in the highly
promising XML switching market. We are pleased have received
such strong validation from some of the country's most
respected venture capital firms." said Gaitonde.
The company, based in Chicago, IL, has already attracted
about 30 highly experienced professionals from such leading
companies as Cisco Systems, CacheFlow, IBM, Lucent, Motorola,
PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Verizon.
The company also announced today that it has been named to
I-Street Magazine's list of Chicago's Top 50 Emerging
Tech Companies.
