XML APPLIANCE LEADER SARVEGA NAMES CHRIS DARBY, FORMER CEO OF PREMIER
SECURITY CONSULTANCY @STAKE, PRESIDENT AND CEO
Increasing Demand for Sarvega's XPE Appliances Drives Addition to Management
Team
Chicago, IL July 21, 2003 Sarvega , Inc., the leading provider
of XML appliances, today announced that industry veteran Christopher Darby has joined
the company as president and chief executive officer. Darby brings extensive experience
heading innovative market leaders such as the Internet security consulting company
@stake and, prior to that, Interpath (now USinternetworking, Inc), an application
service provider (ASP). In addition to his new operating responsibilities, Darby also
joined Sarvegas Board of Directors. Sunil Gaitonde PhD, co-founder and former
president and CEO, will assume the position of chief technology officer (CTO).
Sarvega has achieved significant milestones under Sunils leadership,
including securing major Global 1000 customers and delivering the most comprehensive
platform for handling the complexities of XML/Web Services processing, said
Steve Bowsher, general partner with InterWest Partners, one of Sarvegas investors,
and a member of Sarvegas Board of Directors. InterWest is pleased that
Chris is joining the team to lead Sarvega from successful start-up to dominant player
in the growing industry.
Darby arrives at a time when Sarvegas customer base and position in the XML/Web
Services market are expanding, which led to Sarvega recently closing $10 million of
Series B funding. The total capital Sarvega has raised is over $20 million, the largest
amount invested in any XML appliance vendor.
Before coming to Sarvega, Darby served as chairman and CEO of @stake. Darby is widely
credited with building @stake into the worlds largest independent Internet security
consulting company. Prior to joining @stake, Darby served as president and CEO of
Interpath. Under his guidance, Interpath emerged from a division of Carolina Power
and Light (CP&L) to become one of the foremost ASPs. Interpath is now part of
USinternetworking. Darby also held several executive positions at Digital Equipment
Corporation (now Hewlett-Packard) with responsibility for telecom industry initiatives,
corporate strategy, and alliances. Darby began his career at Northern Telecom (now
Nortel Networks) and Bell Northern Research (BNR), the research and development arm
of Nortel Networks.
Sarvega has been instrumental in developing the XML appliance market and is
now entering a significant growth phase. As the use of XML for critical applications
such as Web services continues to grow, the demand for Sarvegas XPE family of
XML appliances is increasing. I am very pleased to join the company at this dynamic
time and expand its market and technology leadership position, said Darby.
Deployed in such Global 1000 organizations as 3Com and Fujitsu as well as healthcare
institutions such as Chicagos Mt. Sinai Hospital Systems, Sarvegas XPE
appliances have saved Sarvegas customers millions of dollars while delivering
order-of-magnitude performance improvements in customer applications.
Sarvegas XPE appliances deliver these impressive economic and architectural
benefits due to the industry-first approach of transparently decoupling complex XML
processing tasks from the application infrastructure and offloading them to the network
infrastructure. The XPE family is built on Sarvegas patent-pending core technology,
XML EventStream Operating System (XESOS). XESOS, which addresses all facets
of XML processing from XSL transformation to XML/Web services security, is the most
flexible and comprehensive core technology platform in the market.
"I am very pleased that Sarvegas market leadership position and unmatched
customer traction have enabled us to attract a new member of the team with the impressive
credentials andexperience that Chris brings with him. I look forward to working with
him as we take Sarvega to new heights, said Gaitonde.
